JEOPARDY FRIENDS

One of my bff’s, Marita, recently divulged that while I’m away, she calls my brother Stu to talk about what’s happening on their nightly watch of Jeopardy. Marita says, “Stuey is my escape.” They don’t discuss the same mundane and sometimes troubling things we do, but mainly only talk about their takes on the Jeopardy series.
I’m sure it works both ways, and she’s also his escape, as he never discusses her calls with me. I think it’s great that they have their own friendship. We do, on occasion, text on a three-way text.
Another bff, Maureen, also takes the time to read my weekly blog posts and comment. On a recent post featuring my brother Al, What’s on Your Mind, dated August 26, 2025, she wrote, “Haha great story. We all love Alvin so much. My family has so much fun each time we’re together-cherished memories!!!” Isn’t it wonderful that my friends have their own cherished friendships with my brothers?
Yet another bff, Connie, worked with Stu before Connie and I met in 1979 in grad school. She always asks me how he’s doing and, on occasion, calls to check on him herself.
Marie, a bff since we moved to Elizabeth in 1965, practically grew up in my childhood house and always asks about my brothers. She works for my brother Nate’s friend and gets to check on him when he calls the office. They’ve probably known each other more years than either of them knew her boss.
This all reminds me of the children’s tune The More We Get Together. The words keep ringing in my head. “My friends are your friends, and your friends are my friends. The More We Get Together, the happier we’ll be…”’
Amen. Ain’t it the truth.
Lyrics
‘The more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
'Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
Oh, the more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
There's Chris and Tanya
And Jason and Jusitn
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
‘The more we get together
Together, together
The more we get together
The happier we'll be
'Cause your friends are my friends
And my friends are your friends
The more we get together
The happier we'll be”

I googled the origin of the song. "‘The More We Get Together‘ uses a melody from the 1679 Viennese tune ‘O, du lieber Augustin’ and was originally written by Irving King as the anthem for the Ancient Order of Froth Blowers, an English drinking society, in the 1920s. The song was adapted for children with different lyrics and gained popularity, becoming a beloved traditional children's song known worldwide.”
